1966 a good year for English football fans and a Yorkshire football boot brand as they sign up Pele

Back in 1966 Pele signed terms with Stylo Matchmakers, the British football boot label and in the space of just a few months he became the face of the brand leading up to the 1966 World Cup finals, in England which England went on to win. This was huge for Stylo Matchmakers as Pele is regarded by many today as the best football player in the world. Stylo Matchmakers had hit the jackpot and was going head to head with the big German brands as the go-to for professional football boots. Born on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações, Brazil, the soccer legend Pelé became a world superstar with his performance in the earlier 1958 World Cup, at just 17 years old. Pelé played professionally in Brazil for two decades, winning three World Cups along the way, before joining the New York Cosmos late in his career. Named FIFA co-player of the century in 1999, today he is a global ambassador for soccer and other humanitarian causes.

Pelé is the most successful domestic league goal-scorer in football history scoring 650 goals in 694 League matches. His total of 1281 goals in 1363 games, which included unofficial friendlies, is a Guinness World Record.
